Random team generator

Paste the names into the box on this page, one per line or separated by commas, choose how many teams you need, and press Shuffle. The generator mixes the names in your browser and deals them out one by one, so team sizes differ by at most one person, and gives each team a fun name for a quiz night. Press Shuffle again for a different mix, and Copy to paste the teams into a message or a slide. Nothing is uploaded and there's no sign-up. It works as a random group generator for classrooms, workshops and offsites too. For a team quiz, run it in QG Playground: each team joins on one phone with the team name as the nickname, and the big-screen leaderboard shows the teams racing after every round.
