What types of quiz questions can you use?

QG Playground has 11 question types. Five are scored: multiple choice with 2 to 5 options, multi-select with partial marks, true or false, type answer with up to 8 accepted answers, and ranking, where players put 2 to 6 items in order. Four are not scored and are for hearing the room: polls with live bars, word clouds that grow as people type, ratings on a 1 to 5 or 1 to 10 scale, and content slides with text, photos and YouTube video. Assessments add two more: number answers, exact or within a tolerance, and written answers you mark by hand. You can mix every type in the same session, give each question its own timer and points, and add a picture above any question. The Free plan includes multiple choice, true or false, polls, word clouds and content slides; Pro and above add the other four.

How each type works

The detail behind every format, from timers to what the reveal shows.

Multiple choiceScored · every plan
A multiple choice question in QG Playground has 2 to 5 options with one correct answer. In a live quiz, the question appears on the big screen, players read it for a few seconds, then the options open on their phones as full-width buttons and they tap once to answer. Faster correct answers earn more points, from 1,000 down to 500 by default, or you can give fixed points. When everyone has answered, the screen reveals the vote count for each option and the correct one lights up in orange. In scheduled quizzes, each person answers at their own pace and sees whether they were right straight away. Options can be shuffled per player, a picture can sit above the question, and lifelines such as 50:50 work on multiple choice. It's the most common question type and it's on every plan, including Free.
Multi-selectScored · Pro and above
A multi-select question has several correct answers. Players tick all the options they think are right and press “Submit n selected”, and partial marks reward partly correct answers. It tests understanding better than single-answer questions, because guessing one option isn't enough. On the big screen, the reveal lights up every correct column. Multi-select is on Pro and above.
True or falseScored · every plan
A true or false question shows two big answer buttons and is scored like multiple choice: faster correct answers earn more points. Use it for quick knowledge checks, warm-ups and myth-busting. True or false is on every plan, including Free.
Type answerScored · Pro and above
A type answer question asks players to type their answer instead of choosing it. You add up to 8 accepted answers, and matching ignores capital letters and extra spaces, so “neptune” and “ Neptune” both count. On the big screen, the reveal shows the accepted answer large in orange, with how many got it right, and up to 10 recent typed answers, correct ones tinted. It rewards real recall, not recognition. Type answer is on Pro and above.

A ranking question gives players 2 to 6 items to put in order. You set the correct order; players see the items shuffled and drag them into order, then submit. Points are given for each item in the correct position. On the big screen, the correct order slides in one row at a time after a short suspense. Ranking is on Pro and above.
Number answerAssessments
In Assessments, a number question accepts an exact number, or any answer within a ± tolerance you set, and marks it automatically. Assessments are for Enterprise customers.
PollNot scored · every plan
A poll asks a question with no right answer. People vote with one tap, and the results appear live on the big screen as bars in each option's colour, with percentages and a vote count. Polls open straight away, with no countdown, timer or score, and stay open until you move on. Polls are on every plan, including Free.
Word cloudNot scored · every plan
A word cloud asks for a word or short phrase of up to 30 characters. On the big screen, words spiral out from the centre as they arrive, sized by how often they were sent, up to 48 words at a time. Word clouds are on every plan. To make a cloud from text you already have, use the free word cloud generator.
Rating scaleNot scored · Pro and above
A rating question asks people to rate something on a 1 to 5 or 1 to 10 star scale. It isn't scored. On the big screen, a large average appears with stars and a count, plus a breakdown bar for each value, updating live as ratings arrive. It suits session feedback and quick temperature checks. Rating is on Pro and above.
Content slidesNot scored · every plan
A content slide isn't a question: it's a slide for text, photos and YouTube videos, placed between questions to teach, explain or tell a story. Arrange text boxes, pictures and videos freely on a 16:9 canvas, with fonts, sizes, lists and colours. Videos play on the big screen. Phones either show “Look up at the screen” or mirror the slide, depending on your settings. Content slides are on every plan.
Written answerAssessments
In Assessments, a written question takes a longer answer that you mark by hand. Answers wait in a marking queue, and results stay provisional until everything is marked.

What's the difference between multiple choice and multi-select?
Multiple choice has one correct answer. Multi-select has several: players tick every option they think is right and press Submit, and partial marks reward partly correct answers.
Which question types are free?
Multiple choice, true or false, polls, word clouds and content slides are on the Free plan. Multi-select, type answer, ranking and rating are on Pro and above.
Can I mix polls and quiz questions?
Yes, in a live session. Scheduled quizzes leave out polls, word clouds, ratings and leaderboards, so use scored types there.
How does type answer check spelling?
Matching ignores capital letters and extra spaces, and you can add up to 8 accepted answers for other spellings, such as “Mumbai” and “Bombay”.
Can I add a picture to a question?
Yes. Every question can have a picture shown above it.
Which types are not scored?
Polls, word clouds, ratings and content slides. They're for opinions, feedback and teaching, so they don't change the leaderboard.
